Promotion of Income Generating Activities to improve Sustainable Food Security

Project Partner: Group of Helping Hands (SAHAS) Nepal

With the support of the German Embassy Kathmandu the Group of Helping Hands (SAHAS) Nepal has enabled 180 families in Nallu, South Lalitpur to access multiple sources of income to secure their food supply. The project makes use of local resources and replaces the commonly found but not very profitable production of alcohol as the main source of income. With the Embassy’s grant of 19,981 Euro (25 lakh NPR) SAHAS provided the families with very basic greenhouses for tomato farming, fish ponds, as well as the opportunity to breed pigs and goats. Furthermore, the access to drinking water was improved. All these measures allow the families to sell their products on nearby markets and generate the income needed to cover their living expenses. The families display a great level of effort in making the best out of the jump start provided by SAHAS.
