The Ministry of Health, together with the German Development Cooperation in Nepal (GIZ), is organizing a national conference on adolescent health and development on 2 and 3 May 2016 in Kathmandu.

The first of its kind in Nepal, the conference aims to further the debate over the need for structural changes to ensure that issues facing adolescents are well addressed and that adolescents’ rights are fulfilled. About one quarter of Nepal’s 27 mio. people are adolescents aged between 10 and 19.  This group faces multiple health and development challenges, including a high level of adolescent pregnancy, early marriage and lack of information regarding health risks.

Ms Jacqueline Groth, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the German Embassy in Kathmandu, stressed the significance of this first national conference on adolescent health and encouraged all stakeholders to intensify their efforts to make the realization of young people’s rights and their tremendous contribution to development a reality.
