The historical city and UNESCO world heritage site was heavily damaged in the earthquakes last year. German Development Cooperation will support Bhaktapur municipality in tackling the reconstruction of historical heritage sites, for example the unique wood-carving museum Pujari Math, the National Art Gallery and a number of temples of outstanding cultural value. The cooperation package also includes the rehabilitation of schools.

Ambassador Meyer: With this new collaboration, we are following in the tradition of the first Bhaktapur Development Project that was supported by Germany in the 1970s. We hope that over the next few years, our cooperation will substantially contribute to Bhaktapur regaining its former splendor and its attractiveness both as a hub for tourists and as a livable city for all its inhabitants.”
