On 8 September 2017 Ms. Hira Devi Poudel, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Rasuwa and Mr. Florens Benedikt Vogt, Deputy Head of Development Cooperation, German Embassy, jointly inaugurated Dhunche’s new district disaster management warehouse in Rasuwa. The building was constructed through the Nepal-German Recovery Programme, which covers measures of about 30 million euro in total and aims to alleviate the effects of the devastating earthquake in April 2015. The project got implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The warehouse itself will be used to store materials and equipment safely that will be immediately needed in future disasters.
Rasuwa was severely hit by the devastating April 2015 earthquake, with over 661 people killed and 9778 houses damaged completely. Following the earthquake, German Development Cooperation (GDC) supported immediate relief activities like construction of temporary housing, supply of basic household equipment, skill development trainings, capacity strengthening of the District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRC), social small infrastructures and other livelihood programs.
With the new Rasuwa disaster management warehouse, the region is now better prepared for further disasters in the future and immediate help can be provided earlier.
