On 25 July 2017, Dr. Binod Man Shrestha, Acting Secretary , Ministry of Health (MoH); and Ms. Jacqueline Groth, Chargé d’ Affaires a.i. and Head of Development Cooperation, German Embassy, jointly inaugurated Bungtang’s new health facility. On the occasion, sixteen other completed health facilities in Nuwakot were also handed over to the District Health Office. The buildings were constructed by the Nepal-German Recovery Programme, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Nuwakot was severely hit by the devastating April 2015 earthquake, with 1,112 residents killed and 2,382 injured. A total of 30 health facilities were completely damaged and 20 were partially damaged. German Development Cooperation (GDC), in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has supported the reconstruction of 37 health facilities in Nuwakot and Dhading districts in total. These facilities are critical to restoring health care in the districts as well as a valuable opportunity to provide better health services in future.
