Ambassador Roland Schäfer on 24th November met some of Nepal’s former child soldiers, who were discharged during the peace process eight years ago as minor recruits from the cantonments monitored by the United Nations. The interaction was a concluding program of the four-day skill development training for the former child soldiers.

On the occasion, Ambassador Schäfer said, “The peace process in Nepal is a success story but it is not concluded yet. The issues of conflict victims needed to be addressed to complete Nepal’s successful peace process.” Giving examples of several peace processes around the world, he pointed out that the questions of transitional justice and human rights were crucial aspects, but also iterated the need to recognize it as a political process.

The program, designed to empower former child soldiers for their reintegration in society, was supported by the German Embassy Kathmandu. Children Vision Nepal and Human Rights and Justice Center organized the program.
