Germany stands by Nepal for democratic, inclusive and federal constitution

In several events jointly organised by the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kathmandu, German economic expert Dr. Dietrich Kebschull provided important inputs from the experience of Germanywith economic federalism. Dr. Kebschull was in Kathmandu for three days - on 6, 7 and 8 of August 2014.

On 6 August, presenting a paper on the aspects of the Social Market Economy of Germany, Dr. Kebschull stressed that a free market economy with a high degree of social responsibility was the reason behind the "Economic Miracle" of post-war Germany. Addressing the session as the Chief Guest, Right Honourable Chair of the Constituent Assembly Subash Chandra Nembang highlighted the progress made in the constitution drafting process. Chargée d'Affaires of German Embassy Ms. Jacqueline Groth reaffirmed Germany's commitment to support Nepal in its journey towards prosperity through a democratic, inclusive and federal constitution.

On 7 August, at Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Dr. Kebschull held a lively interaction with trade union leaders and civil society members on Nepal’s social security system. He addressed a special session of CNI the same day where he highlighted the financial relationship between the federal states and the union in Germany.

These events were organised with an objective of promoting high level exchange of expertise between Nepal and Germany for strengthening mutual cooperation between our two countries.
