Ambassador Meyer calls on Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal
German Ambassador to Nepal Matthias Meyer on March 26 paid a courtesy visit to former Prime Minister and senior political leader Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter’s residence.
During the meeting, Honourable Mr. Nepal appreciated the role of Germany in Nepal’s development process and consolidation of democracy and expressed his thanks to the government and people of Germany. He emphasized on the necessity for Nepal to embark on a new journey of economic development by quickly concluding the current political course. Calling for the need of local elections, he said that the absence of local government was creating huge gaps in local development.
In the meeting, exchange of ideas took place regarding Nepal’s ongoing constitution negotiations as well. While Ambassador Meyer touched upon German examples, Honourable Mr. Nepal said the effort of his party CPN-UML was towards drafting the new constitution by 28th of May, although a concrete agreement was yet to be reached.
Ambassador Meyer appreciated Mr. Nepal’s role in Nepalese peace process and wished that it could be guided to its logical conclusion now. Recognizing the role of political parties towards realizing the dream of converting Nepal’s economic potential into a reality, Ambassador Meyer assured necessary support from the government and the people of Germany.
