Depending on the purpose and duration of your stay in Germany you can either apply for a short-term "Schengen visa" or for a long-term "German national visa" for stays over 90 days.

A Schengen visa entitles the holder to an accumulated stay of up to 90 days within a period of six months and is valid for Germany, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland (Schengen Area).
German National visas ( Long-term visas):
If you plan to live and work/study in Germany, you need a German national visa.
Important information for students: With immediate effect, students need to open a blocked account with the sum of Euro 8.800,00, the amount needed to secure the cost of living for one year only per individual.
